The week of Talitha
Week 50. In ‘the week of’, the Project Managers, or other team members, of goMICE share their (work) week in a new blog. This week, you can look and read along with the week of goMICE Project Manager Talitha!
A thick blanket of snow fell on Sunday, which means I woke up in a Winter Wonderland on Monday. Not in Austria or France, but right here at home (just south of Rotterdam). Due to the snow and icy roads, several colleagues can’t make it to the office. They are working from home to take care of ongoing and new requests from there.
Fortunately, my metro is running as usual and I get to the office on time. It’s going to be another varied day in which, among other things, I get to confirm a cool trip to Sweden for a group that is going to visit several theme parks there. I also look for suitable locations in Amsterdam and take care of contracts for a hostel in Tallinn.
Today is my part-time day. While my colleagues at the office and at home serve our customers and suppliers, I take a moment to enjoy the wonderful winter weather. (Including this cosy snowman I made in our garden in a creative mood on Sunday).
It has been quite busy on our department in the past weeks, and we have received many new requests. Whenever we receive a new request, we contact the customer to discuss the request and any specific wishes. All our quotations are fully customised and carefully tailored to the needs of the customer. We have issued many inspiring quotes in recent weeks and are delighted to have several customers confirm their trips in the past few days! From a Dealer Day in the middle of our country to a winter sports trip to beautiful Austria and from a study trip to Japan to a train trip to Paris.
In the meantime, I have time to decorate a small Christmas tree, which adds a nice atmosphere to the goMICE department.
Today I dive into meeting locations in Amsterdam again. We organise ten meetings per year for a major customer, including hotel stays and meeting locations. Most of these take place in Amsterdam, but sometimes also in cities like London and Paris. A 5-day meeting scheduled for March takes place at the same time as a large trade fair in the RAI, which means many hotels and locations are fully booked. This makes it a true challenge to find a suitable and affordable location. Fortunately, we are familiar with many locations in Amsterdam. To keep surprising our customers with beautiful and inspiring locations, we inspect various locations across the country every year. We also regularly receive sales managers of hotels at our office, who inform us of their possibilities. Fortunately, thanks to our extensive network, I am able to send the customer a great proposal.
Our office is located at Wilhelminakade in Rotterdam. Large cruise ships dock here regularly. This week, too, a large ship is visiting Amsterdam. We can see the passengers arriving at their destination from our office; some are having breakfast at the restaurant, others are working out in the gym, and others still are taking a dip in the pool. At our office, the work continues, and we make sure our customers also enjoy themselves like this during the meetings, incentives, or events we book for them.
We fully unburden our clients. From the initial request all the way to booking everything, and we make sure every detail is taken care of. This makes our work a very versatile and challenging job! Hopefully, I was able to give you a good look at my (work) week!
